I have asked this same question from various artists and the best and most helpful suggestion ive gotten was to trace a few in the style you like. Start by tracing a few using layers in a program like gimp (using the layers you can hide and unhide the original reference picture) eventual you wont even need a reference picture. if you use a vector graphic program like flash or inkscape it will make it easy for you to change the features on the body to how you want them to look, so when your done its not really a tracing of someones stuff, just using another drawn body as a guide. if you have any questions about gimp, flash, or inkscape ill be happy to assist you. i should proly say im not telling anyone to just copy/alter anyone's work and call it there own, many artists have a problem with people altering there work. doing it this way your not altering it but using it as a base template for body/size proportion and changing it to what you are going for. :3
